Wednesday was the end of an era. My favourite coffee shop, Second Cup Cafe, closed its doors for the final time. Hit hard by the rising costs of fuel, goods, freight, and everything else, Jessica and Mandalyn, the owners of the shop, could no longer afford to keep the cafe opened, despite struggling for about six months to bear the economic storm. It is such a shame that such a great place could not stay opened, because the girls had the right idea about the type of place they wanted to run. I remember Mandalyn saying that if it were all about the money, they wouldn't have even opened the shop. To them, it was all about the people. They wanted to run a shop that would be a place that everybody wanted to go to and enjoy. And they succeeded in that regard. They created an environment that was comfortable and relaxing... a place where even if you had the worst day of your life, you could walk in, relax on a couch with your favourite drink, and just cast all of your anxieties aside. And if you were a repeat customer, like myself, to the girls and guys who worked there, you weren't a customer, but a friend. It was about two and a half years ago, when I had decided to go on what I called "The Great Coffee Shop Hunt". You see, when I lived in Columbus, there was this coffee house I would go to just about every day, and after moving back here, I longed for that environment again. There had been one coffee shop around here that had come close to that feeling, but it was bought out and turned into more of a carry-out/poker hall than a coffee house. So, I decided one day to just go around the valley, and search out a new coffee house to try out, and hopefully frequent.After a ton of searching that led me into the late hours of the night, I stopped at a restaurant called Uncle Pete's, because there was supposed to be a coffee shop underneath of the restaurant. When I asked a waitress about it, she told me that the coffee shop below them had closed down, but there was another coffee shop just a block up the hill. Unfortunately, that place had closed for the night, but since it was near where I worked, I decided that the next day, I would stop by. When I stopped in the following day, I knew at first glance that I had found the place I was looking for. Plenty of couches on which to relax, the unique decor which included coffee tables made out of old doors, and the aroma of fresh coffee in the air; all of it had a welcoming feeling that only the best coffee houses offered. It reminded me of the cafe I visited in Columbus, only with a lot more to offer. After this first visit, I was hooked. Everything about it was what I had always wanted in a coffee house, and I knew that from that point on, this would be the new place for me to hangout. Looking back on all the time I've spent there, it is hard to count all of the great memories I have had there. While there, I've made several friends and shared many special moments with everybody. I'm sure that everybody who has visited the shop feels the same way as I do, as Second Cup was truly a place like no other. I'm sure that everybody has their own fond memories of Second Cup, and I know that there are several things I will always remember: The Storm Trooper hanging from the light. All of the balloons for birthdays, anniversaries, and whatever else, as well as sucking out the helium of those balloons with Tina. Jessica's homemade chili, as well as the "special batch", which was several times spicier! Chatting with Chad about Ohio Valley Greyhounds football. My favourite coffee: Gangstalicious Blue Heela' The prank on Christian that Jessica, Mandalyn, and I devised: Caribbean Mocha Mudslide Cappuccino! Bickering back and forth with Grant about whatever... like how he liked the Dolphins, and I was a Pats fan. My blind date that I met there. The live music played on some evenings, as well as Tim chatting up the Spanish teacher after one of the shows. Ralph's car getting smashed out front! Jessica trying to set me up with "Sarah's Monkey". I could go on. For three years, the coffee shop was the place to hangout, and it's sad to see a place like this go. Although the shop is gone, the memories and friends I made there will stay with me forever. I would like to thank Jessica and Mandalyn for their hard work and dedication to making the best coffee and cafe ever, and also for their friendship. They are two of the most awesome people ever, and if every business owner treated their customers the way that the girls treated the Second Cup patrons, this world would be a better place. Goodbye, Second Cup. We will miss you.  |

| Just as I predicted, the winner of the WTF Video of the Month for March 2008 is the one of the soldiers throwing the puppy over a cliff. Unlike normal, though, I am not going to repost the video here, because I've seriously seen enough of it. If you want to see it, feel free to look it up. | ||||||||

Ok, time to lay some stats on all y'all. Below, I've posted some numbers to show you what all activity has gone on on this site for the first quarter of 2008. That's January through March, for those of you who may not know division! :) The stuff in April is not included, obviously. So, feel free to check these over and give any opinions if you would like. Today has been a very interesting day thus far. I know, I'm speaking as if there is a lot of daytime left for me. At this point, I'm not sure. I've been so up and down as far as my awakeness/ready-to-pass-outness has been. As you may all remember, I am on this really wicked prescription drug to help with my shoulder pain. Well, it has some really awesome side-effects! I never thought I'd enjoy side-effects, but these ones are kind of fun! First, of course, is the drowziness. This wasn't just normal drowziness, though. While at work, I was doing fine, then all of the sudden, I felt like I was going to pass out! Then later on, I suddenly got really hyper and loopy, and was just feeling really funny, in a good way! Different parts of my body have been tingling at different times, mostly my head. I'm not sure how to describe this tingling feeling. I guess the best way to is this: You know that tingling feeling you get when your arm or leg falls asleep? Right at the end of that, where the tingling is almost gone and really light... that's how this tingling has felt for me. Later on, I was sitting on this porch ledge talking to my neighbours across the street, and I was sitting still, but I felt like I was on a swaying boat! And then of course, there's the enhanced hearing, weird perception, and a couple other things. It's been a fun side-effect trip! The question on everybody's mind at work when they saw me in my sling: "Will you be able to play softball?" Hee hee... I told them all that I'd still be able, as I should be better in about three weeks, which will be well before softball season starts. I hope I'm able to keep my promise on that. I'm still awaiting Xray results from my doctor, so hopefully there's nothing major that needs done. I could go for a bit of physical therapy, though! That's always fun! :) In other news, how about this weather we've been having lately? The past couple days, I've spent a good bit of time just sitting on my porch watching the cars, people, and animals going by. There have been several motorcyclists out and about as well. One thing I've noticed about my location is that it's a prime location for people watching. So it's been quite fun to just observe. With my blurred vision from the drug trip... One final thing.
