(First, I just have to say that there are some *unusual* options for 'Mood' here.)

Also, I need to say that I am *still* procrastinating preparing for tomorrow's ninja game. And I'm supposed to hang out with Joel some later tonight... but all I have to do is draw up a map and figure out what everyone "should" notice when they search the place. (Because things never go as planned!) So, should only take me three hours, but after dinner that'll be about al lthe time I have... so, yeah, that's why I'm procrastinating by writing this ;)

Now for the real topic:
I didn't get to write here earlier about how I've been approached to take over the office administration for Dr. Bashline (aka "John-the-elder"). Is not a full chiropractic office--he's turned that over to his son Shane--but he spends about 2 days a week treating an average of... I'd say 25-30 patients.

From what I've seen, the workload is *really* light--closer to 20 hours a week--but somebody has to be there 9-5 to answer the phone, as a lot of his patients are Amish and you can't just ask for their number so you can call them back. So I'm pretty confident that I could do the work well, and the guy I'm replacing is being paid salary... I forget what it was, but it comes out to about $18/hr. Which is *very* much nicer than anything I've been paid yet.

Now, here is the dilemma:
1) I was hired by Dr Bashline to do video editing for a TV program he started back in October.
2) He hasn't taped any new episodes for a month, maybe two, and *if* I understand the situation, this past week he called Comcast and told them he was done. The day before that he had been planning on startign to tape shows again, so I don't know what he's thinking.
3) I still don't really know what my "official" work situation is. Mostly I just go in to work and cover for John-the-younger when he goes out (to pick up louch, or get office supplies, or talk to the accountants, or get the mail, etc.) In theory I'm supposed to be learning how to do everything that John-the-younger does, but so far all I've really been doing is secretarial, and helping pack up Dr Bashline's stuff for his weekly trips to treat patients.
4) I'm planning on going to grad school starting Fall 2009. (No, I don't know where or for what program; I'm being *really* slow about starting the process.)

So, my current conclusion:
I don't know if I *should* be hired to replace John-the-younger. I mean, I'll only be there for about a year, myself, and then I'd be leaving as well. Sure, that'd give them some time to find someone else, but as *I* would be the secretary/administrator, *I* would probably be the one stuck doing HR as well. Not such a good idea.

But if I'm *not* going to be hired for that... what /am/ I gonna do for the next year-and-a-half? :: sigh ::
Since apparently the job I have been doing is getting cancelled... Mebbe I could get unemployment for a while? I dunno, I've never looked into that before. Can you _get_ unemployment from part-time jobs? o.O And I'd still be stuck back in "looking for a job" mode, which I hate.

So... I guess I need to really talk with John (and maybe also John) and get a better idea what's going on and what I should expect. Bleah. I'm not really comfortable talking with them yet, I guess.

And *thats* a bad thing in it's own right--not being comfortable talking with your employer is always bad, but in such a small operation is even worse!


So, um, yeah. I'd appreciate prayer for this--that I can force myself to talk w/ John about the situation, and that they'll have wisdom on whether to go ahead with using me as the new secretary. Don't think I can say much more until I get more data, ne?
