Well, like I mentioned in my last true blog post, it's time for me to review some new anime! For the past half a year, an anime called Claymore has been running as a 26 episode single-season series, and that finished up a couple weeks ago. That had actually turned out to be a pretty decent series, although the one major knock I have against it is that a ton of the characters all look so similar, that it's tough to keep track of who's who sometimes. But, I'll leave that for another day. Since Claymore is now over, I needed a new series to pick up on, in addition to the current series I am already watching in Naruto: Shippuuden and Bleach. So, I've looked at three different new series that are currently in circulation on the airwaves in Japan.

Before I start reviewing them, I'll explain my ratings system for these series. The ratings are based on eight factors, each judged on a scale of 1 to 10. The factors are:

Concept: What do I think of the premise of the series?

Delivery: This is how well put together the show is put together. How well does the show flow into each scene?

Purpose Effect: If it's a comedy, does it make me laugh? If it's a horror, does it freak me out? That should explain what this factor is.

Animation: How good does the imagery look?

Dialogue: The voices, the talking, the lines, you know what dialogue is.

Characters: Are the characters interesting, unique, loveable, hateable, etc.?

Entertainment Value: Was I entertained? Obvious enough.

IT Factor: Something you just can't explain. You know IT when you see IT, and IT is that indescribable special thing that just defines the series and how good it is.

Now, on with the reviews!

First up is Genshiken 2, which is apparently a sequel to a series called Genshiken. Pretty obvious, huh? Well, before I watched the first episode of this one, I was thinking that I may need to watch the original series to get a feel for what it was about. After watching the initial episode of the new series, I don't want to go back and watch the first season, or the rest of the second season for that matter. This first episode was so dull and drab, that it was tough to even get through it, which was a feeling I hadn't experienced since trying to watch To Heart: Remember My Love.

The plot that I took out of this episode is as follows: There's a college visual arts club or something which is making a comic book for an upcoming comics festival. Which is fine and all, except that they want to do a hentai comic, which is beyond me why a supposedly college-sanctioned club would be permitted to make hentai comics. Maybe it's not college-sanctioned, and just made up of a bunch of college students or something. Who knows. But there are only three tickets for entry, and about six or seven members of this club who want to participate. A small subplot is introduced about deciding who would be the ones to go, although after the initial thought, not a single mention is made of this issue afterwards. I guess they're saving that for episode two. Because some old member (I think he's an old member) busts in and tries to suggest on something completely different for the comic, and claims he has a bunch of famous industry writers who are willing to help him out, with the promise of huge profit. Well, the new chairman just isn't standing for that, and turns the offer of fame and fortune down and insists that the club does it themselves. So then, the chairman gets a list of all the writers and has to call each one personally to tell each of them individually that they're not interested. Yeah, nothing like passing around phone lists of top-industry people! That would catch a good price on eBay! Well anyway, when he calls all of them, they pretty much tell him that they all thought that the one guy was full of crap anyway, and tells the chairman that he needs to do things his way. Yeah, go for it, and ganbatte on that hentai mag! Well, that's pretty much the episode.

Animation-wise, I wasn't a big fan of the style. It wasn't Shin-chan bad, and the images were smooth, but overall, the characters just looked kind of generic. No real flash or pop to them at all. There are some attempts at humour, most of which fell flat. Which is really bad, considering that this is supposed to be a comedy! I couldn't really get a feel for any of the characters, and it just seemed like the creators were just trying to apply certain established stereotypes to the characters and just kinda throw them into the show's premise. Didn't work at all, in my opinion. The storyline seemed like nothing special, and although the concept was average at best, it just seems like they could have done so much more with it. It overall wasn't the worst piece of crap I've seen, but it may take awhile before I revisit this series, as I just wasn't impressed. This may be one of those that may get better over time, like a good wine, but right now, it's just sour grapes.

So, for the scoring:

Concept: 5/10 - Just an average concept about a club trying to accomplish a task. The whole school club concept has been done so many times already, and its starting to get old.

Delivery: 2/10 - Even with this average concept, they still seem to screw it up. There's the whole not-enough-ticket thing which could have made for a somewhat interesting episode, but they just kind of toss it aside to go with something even more mundane.

Purpose Effect: 1/10 - It's listed as a comedy. It didn't make me laugh in the least.

Animation: 5/10 - Average. That's about it.

Dialogue: 3/10 - Once again, nothing special. A lot of the dialogue was just flat, and some of the character voices were downright annoying!

Characters: 4/10 - A lot of stereotypical characters placed in the wrong series. They could possibly work somewhere else, or nowhere else, but not here. They just don't fit.

Entertainment Value: 2/10 - Wasn't entertained, but like I said above, not the worst piece of crap I've seen.

IT Factor: 1/10 - It doesn't have it. Nothing really special about this series to make it stand out in my eyes.

Average Score: 2.875/10

I'll write the other two reviews a little later. This is a lot to digest for now, plus I'm going to take a break and go do some laundry. Bye for now!

Ok, I got a MySpace bulletin from one of my MySpace buddies on MySpace, and I just had to repost it here, because it's just t3h uber cool!

The illusion is this: You see two images; the left being a scary face, and the right being a calm face. Now, get up out of your computer chair or bench, move back about 12 feet, and the faces should switch sides! I'm trying to figure out how this works, just because. I wonder if this will also work with a printout... hmmm.....

It's been almost a week since I've actually written a meaningful blog, which nowadays seems like an eternity! Remember the old days, when months, sometimes years, would go by before I would update my site? Now, I'm on here all the time, posting vids, football updates, and other lil' tidbits to get people deeper into my demented mind! Scary, huh?

Well anyway, I had a really busy weekend. Obviously, on Friday was the football game, and I enjoyed myself there, although the game was an unexpected blowout. Manda went to the game with me, and for once, she actually rooted for Shadyside! Ha! Must've been tough, her being a Pumpkin town girl and all. Afterwards, we made the trip to Steak n Shake, where for once, I didn't get a coffee! That was because I had plans the next morning....

I had to wake up very early on Saturday, a day I normally like to sleep in until Adolph wakes me up, to participate in a 5K Run/Walk race! Yes, I only walked, because I can't run. If I even take a few standard running paces, my back begins to hurt, and I can barely move. I say "standard" because if I bend over with my arms behind me and run like a ninja, I can run perfectly fine! But, that's a topic for another day...

Anywho, I had signed up for this race as a walker. In case anybody can't do the conversion in their head, on paper, or just don't know what the conversion is, 5K is approximately 3.125 miles. A little over 12 laps around a standard track, or for you Shadyside folks, about three laps around the Loop. A pretty nice-sized walking distance for a person, normally a distance reserved for people who are stranded on the highway when their car breaks down, and they need to walk to the nearest gas station to either make a call or get gas, because they decided to be driving their car out in the country, and not have their car break down in a convenient location where they are either a block or two away from a gas station, or in a place where their cell phone can actually get a signal! Where was I.... ah yes, the 5K... well, I actually enjoyed walking that thing. Me and one of the ladies from work walked together and joked about some of our other coworkers, including the guy who wore too-tight biker shorts that left nothing to the imagination. I finished the thing in a fairly decent time. Under 50 minutes. 49 something... I was definitely not the fastest walker there, but I wasn't the slowest, either! There were quite a few people who finished behind me, so I was happy that I didn't at least finish last. I was happy just to finish, because I don't think I had ever walked that distance in one session. The weird thing was, I was in for quite an unexpected shock...

You see, at the awards ceremony, they were announcing the different awards in different categories. They pretty much had an age group for both genders in both walking and running, and were giving out all sorts of awards. Some of the times I was hearing for the walkers were really putting me to shame. I wasn't even coming close to a lot of the times that were award winners! But then, they got to my division. Male Walkers, ages 20-29. I heard something like "In 3rd place, with a time of 51 minutes..." at which point, I cried out "You gotta be kidding!" Then, "In 2nd place, with a time of 50 minutes and xx seconds..." and I was like "There is no way!" Sure enough, I somehow WON my division! I couldn't believe it for a minute! I almost fell down the stairs, going to get my award. It wasn't that I was overjoyed or anything... I was thinking about it, and I would not have placed in any other division! I wouldn't have placed in the female walkers 60 and over division! How I got the winning time in mine was beyond me. Of course, I got to thinking that most of the guys in my age bracket who were actually participating in this thing were probably in better shape than I, and opted to actually RUN the race, instead of walk. But, oh well. The plaque is hanging up here on my wall next to my computer, and it's the first thing I've won that has actually had "1st place" on it. I don't even have a 1st place wrestling trophy, and I wrestled for 13 years, and was considered a pretty good wrestler! And for a clumsy guy like me to get a first place at walking is just comical, I think.

Walking that distance paid its price, however. Like I mentioned earlier, I'm not in the best shape, and even though my legs are pretty muscular, especially my calves (which a certain Steak n Shake waitress will confirm), I do have a good bit of fatty fat on my thighs. Well, during all of this walking, my thighs scraped repeated together, to the point where I actually developed painful rub burns on the insides of my legs! In fact, they are still somewhat tore up, although I can finally walk normally again! But the remainder of that day, and a good part of Sunday, I was walking like a cowboy because of the pain. And worst part? I had to work the haunted house Saturday evening! It was very painful working there that evening, as I had to do a part which required a lot of moving around. They were going to put me in a non-movement part because of my immobileness, but they were kinda short staffed that evening, and they had complimented me in being the main character in my past attempts, so they needed me to take the lead role again, and I ouched my way through it. I made it through the night despite the pain, and have begun the healing process.

Boy, I've written a lot tonight! I still have a lot to write, including some reviews of three new anime I've watched, but I'll have to save those for another day. Time to put in a load of laundry and start getting ready for bed! G'night all!

Yep, it's that time of the week again! Time for yet another WTF Video, and this time, I'm getting it online first thing in the morning! Not that it matters, but oh well...

This video I saw last week during my general surfing, and I knew right away that I just saw something... special... this might be one of the most WTF-worthy videos I've posted! Because it just doesn't make any sense. At all. The vid is completely pointless and random, but yet I can't look away. From the moment I started watching it through the end, I kept thinking "WTF am I watching?" Pure, classic WTF goodness. Enjoy!

Well, this game was supposed to be one of the big tests for Shadyside. A matchup of small school state runners-up; Shadyside from Ohio's Division 6, and Williamstown from West Virginia Class A. I had predicted a 27-20 Shadyside win. Boy, was I wrong! The Tigers looked to be on a mission and stormed their way through the WV power en route to a 47-13 victory! The Tigers are gearing up for another postseason birth, and another possible shot at the state title. Here is the update compilation from the game.
