Boy, was I excited when I got word from the man himself that Weird Al was releasing a new single! From what I understand, he's going to be working on several new songs and releasing them on iTunes as he finishes them, instead of waiting for enough songs to be completed for a full album, only to have some of the topical material be outdated. I guess it would be a good thing if done right, and since this new single has to do with the right-now, it makes sense to release it now instead of waiting a couple years for the album, when our situation could be different. So with all of that out of the way, here is my review for Weird Al's new single, "Whatever You Like"! First, some background on the song and its origins. This song is a parody of the T.I. hit, also named "Whatever You Like", which is currently at #1 on the Billboard Charts' "Hot 100". This marks two firsts for Weird Al: this is the first time he has released a parody while the original was still #1 on the charts, and this is also the first parody to contain the same title as the original! One other note of interest about this parody: he came up with the idea only two weeks ago! Stuff happened really quick in the whole process, including writing the song, getting the permission from T.I. to do the parody, and all the production and post-production involved. First, the good about the song. It's signature Weird Al. If you're a fan of his style, you'll enjoy this one. I know I've already played it about a dozen times since I've downloaded it. The track contains several of his staples, including his jovial vocals and sarcastic lyrics. He takes a very serious topic (our current economic situation), puts a very humourous spin on it, and gets me to laugh! Some of the lyrical ideas border on the absurd, and brings to mind some redneck comedy, like the classic "let the little lady supersize, because it's our anniversary"! In this case, Weird Al promises that his love can have as much as she wants... of government cheese and Top Ramen! And as a man who knows his ramen, I'm glad he chose to mention "Top Ramen", because that IS the cheap stuff! The brand I buy, Maruchan, is gourmet compared to Top Ramen! :) Now for the bad. Overall, the song felt kind of rushed. I know he only came up with the idea two weeks ago, and normally, I'm sure he would have more time to polish up the final product. There was one section of lyrics that didn't really fit with the rest of the song, or the theme for that matter, at the beginning of the second verse. He mentioned not buying lyposuction for his girl, and her being beautiful enough to almost win a beauty pageant if she could get the lypo. I know that may be because they can't afford it, but with the rest of the song being about material possessions, it doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the song. Some of the vocals are a little choppy, but then again, the original song is like that too, so that's something I can forgive. Overall, a solid entry for Weird Al. A little rough around the edges, but funny and replayable. 7/10 |

Here we are, in another weekend, working on bills, cleaning house, and doing other items of interest throughout the day. When I look at all the activities I have going on today, as well as every other day this past week and the week upcoming, I wonder where all of my free time has gone! Not that I'm not doing fun stuff here and there, but there is no break in between action! For example, let's take yesterday, and part of today that bleeds in from yesterday! Of course, the day started out with my career, which seemed to drag on forever for some reason. Maybe it was because all of the bosses were out of town, and there was a general feeling of boredom in the air. Also, since it was Friday, everybody was just anxious to get out of the office and start enjoying their weekends. So, I ended up getting out around 4:30 PM, which put me home before 5:00 for once. Once I was home, I was going about the task of getting things organized around my laptop for what was to come later. After that was out of the way, I took a trip out to Circuit City to pick up a Hard Drive Enclosure, and then stopped by Steak n Shake for a quick bite to eat. Yes, it was a quick stop. I could tell, because I only had one cup of coffee! :) Well, after that run was out of the way, I retreated back to my dwelling where the next period of time was spent hooking up this HDE up to an old hard drive from which I was trying to recover data. It belongs to a lady I work with, and it contained pictures and videos of her family. Well, the hard drive is completely crashed, and sounded like a time-bomb according to my roommate. It was during this whole setup time that Strike arrived and watched me put together this pseudo-time bomb. (Throwing in paragraph break, just to break up monotony...) After giving up on the hard drive, we got to relax for a few minutes, watch some Sports Friday and mess around with Spore, which I've had hardly time to play! After SF ended, it was midnight, and then it was off to the Huddle House! Strike and I have been meeting a couple of our friends out there every Friday to play some Magic the Gathering for a few hours. Well, after much food and MtG butt-whoopin', it was past four in the morning, and time to finally head home for the night. This ended up putting me in bed until about 12:30 today, and I've been working on bills since! Well, they're all done, and now I just need to wrap up this blog! Well, let's get this task out of the way and wrap up this one. I've got a lot more to do today, so I'll catch y'all later! -- TG |

In celebration of the breaking and fixing of my car, here is a new randomness dedicated to my car and this week thus far! 1) Major problem: battery leak. Just glad the battery juice didn't corrode anything in my car! 2) When I was signing the paperwork at the body shop/dealership after getting my car towed there, some old guy hit one of the new trucks parked on the lot. Apparently, he didn't know how to turn his car on, and was attempting to start the engine using radio knobs! 3) I got this $1,000,000 scratch-off game piece from the repair shop after getting my car fixed. In order to win, I have to scratch off five squares, and if all five match, I win a prize! I'm trying to sneak peaks under the scratch areas using flashlights and other devices. Nothing like cheating on lottery games! :) 4) I was thinking I would be waiting on the extra parts for a while, but they arrived after only one day, so my car goes back in tomorrow to get completed! 5) It's taken some time to get used to my new brakes. They must have worn down a good bit, because I tend to press too much now for just a little bit of stopping. Whiplash is awesome! ;) 6) I'll let you all know if any thing else comes up with my car. Later! |

Well, I got my car partially fixed. The major problem that caused my car from starting was, out of all things, a battery leak! It had run out of juice, so the car just stopped working. Apparently, it had been leaking for a little while, which had caused my car to start running sluggishly, which was the main reason I was planning on getting a tune-up anyway! So, once they got the broken battery out of the way, and put in the new one as well as some fresh terminals, the cruiser started running great. There were a couple other things that they did, including changing the rear breaks, and replacing a sensor, but after that whole battery thing, nothing major! I will have to take the car back in next week, though, because there is also a leak in the exhaust system, but they didn't have the parts available to make the repair. Plus, for some reason, my radio is no longer working! At least I have my MP3 player, so I won't be without my tunes! But the major stuff is out of the way, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg! I am out a couple fingers, a big toe, and some back hair, though. Well, that's all for now, because I'm getting tired. Bleh. Catch y'all later! |

| Well, here I am, stuck in downtown Wheeling. My car will not start! In an ultimate twist of irony, I had an appointment to have it serviced tomorrow! Guess it's another typical Monday! I'll write some more later when I get home. | ||||||||
