Well, it's happened. Another year has past, I'm another year older, and here I sit once again at my house, ready to take in the new year festivities alone. Not that I'm complaining... I actually had the chance to go to a couple different parties tonight, but my birthday celebrations wore me out today, so I've decided to just stay at home, relax, and hope to at least stay awake for the new year to chime in. I don't know if I'll make it or not, but I'm hoping for the best! When I think back on this year, I tend to think of the bad aspects of the year. First, it was incredibly long, mostly due to my work. I've been working on stuff all year that I just wanted to get done, and it was supposed to be done by the end of the year, but because of the anticipation of wanting it done, it really made this year drag on forever. Oh, and that project encountered numerous delays, and the launch is now pushed back until at least April! Ugh! So it may be that the first half of 2011 will be slow and painful, but the second half will fly by! Oh well... Then, I think of the mistakes I've made, people I have hurt, and all the failures in reaching goals I had set for myself. I keep wondering why I tend to fall back into the same old habits, getting lazy, and taking the people I love for granted. Old habits are tough to break, and that has definitely proven true this year. This year has seemed to have a lot of rough spots for me. There have been a lot of funerals that I had to attend this year. Plus, the major loss for me this year, which seemed like forever ago... the death of Adolph... that really hit me hard, and I still miss her a lot. Then, there was the whole situation with having to ask my roommate to leave due to our strained friendship. Things are better between the two of us since he moved out, but still not the way they used to be. Then, I know I got way too overemotional on pointless issues that I shouldn't have gotten so worked up about. It may be tough to see the light in all of the bad, but there have definitely been some bright spots for me. Of course, I got the two new cats, and although they have been a real hand-full, they do a pretty good job of keeping me happy throughout the evenings when I'm home. I'm still employed, which in today's economic turmoil, is always a good thing! I've actually met several new people this year, and developed some nice new friendships, including one in particular which I am extremely glad has happened. It's not often you do develop a good friendship, but when you do, it can bring a lot of joy and excitement to your life, and I'm extremely grateful to this person for giving me the chance to forge this friendship. I've renewed old acquaintances, mostly thanks to Facebook! It's always nice to talk to people you haven't seen forever! Oh, and I should also mention, Shadyside had a fantastic year in football, making it all the way to the state championship game! Yeah, I had to say it! ^_^ All in all, this has been a year of ups and downs, but looking back on it all, despite the good and the bad, all the things that have happened give me a renewed vigor to charge into this new year with my head held high, ready to meet the challenges I will face, and to make this new year the best one yet! I hope everybody has an awesome new year! Here's to friendship, family, and the good and the bad! God bless us all in the new year! -- TG |

Well, it's my last day being 30 years old... so, here's a special Randomness to kickoff my descent into the abyss of aging. 1) While sitting at a Steak n Shake, it occurred to me how some people have lost all sense of decency in public. 2) I have been plotting out some details lately to prepare for starting my own coffee house. It probably won't happen in the too-near future, but at least I'm laying out some ground work! 3) I was looking over my old new year's resolutions, and one of the only ones I was able to keep was to drink more coffee... then again, that covered about half my resolutions, so I could say I did a pretty good percentage of resolution keeping! 4) Do I have something on my face? 5) I've been invited to a New Year's party for once! Not sure if I'm going to go, though, because I usually prefer spending the New Year's ushering at home alone. 6) I'll have to make sure I can still login to my DoMO account, so I can keep my one New Year's tradition alive. 7) I think I'm going to plan my trip to Japan for 2012. That way, I can budget my money in order to save up for a decent trip. 8) This morning's trip into work was somewhat tricky. But after fish-tailing the turn onto the main road, I came to the realization that I was driving in an ice storm, and should travel carefully. 9) I'm going into a four-day weekend! I better enjoy this, because after this, I'm not going to get a major break from work for a while. 10) In regards to the thing I've been promising as a new addon to this site, I'm shooting for a New Year's launch... I'm putting some extra effort into it to make sure that I get it good the first time, instead of launching something inferior, then having interest lost while I make improvements. 11) I took my Christmas tree down early this year, because my cats can't stay out of it, and they were on the verge of rendering it inoperable. 12) I've got a busy day tomorrow. I just hope every place I need to go to is open tomorrow! 13) I watched the movie "The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi" last night. Two hours and forty minutes of sheer awesomeness!!! 14) One of the reasons I need to lose weight... When you're a fat guy at a party, everybody thinks you will be the one to down the leftovers, and they insist that you do so, because they think "Hey, he's fat... he likes to eat... let's ask him!" 15) I haven't been to Fusion in a while... I need my sushi, and my cute Oriental waitress! 16) The next big party I plan on having is the Super Bowl party... The Pats and Chiefs are both shooting for a spot... I hope one of them gets in. 17) One day, I need to take a count of how many of each of these I have... friends, stalkers, fan-girls... 18) Speaking of decency in public, if you rip a giant fart in the middle of a public place, but there is no one nearby to hear or smell it, is it still rude? 19) Meep. 20) It's been a while since I've been to a theater to see a movie... I really need to get out more often! 21) I'm wondering what I need to invest in this new year. I'm thinking a weight bench. 22) I'm interested to see what presents I get for my birthday tomorrow... Will this end up being the first holiday season I don't get some sort of video game? 23) I've had some decent success as of recently in the claw game at Steak n Shake... I'm wondering if I could somehow apply that skill in the real world... 24) Speaking of the real world, I've really gotten re-hooked on the Sims 3 game. I'm just stat-building my character now! 25) What does that 5-hour energy stuff taste like? It looks like it would taste like crap, and they always say they are superior to coffee. I don't believe them. 26) This spreadsheet I built over four years ago to handle my finances is finally reaching the last date I had setup. I need to expand it to handle another four or five years! 27) One thing I will remember about this past year is that it was the year where I heavily expanded my anime horizons. I don't know how many new series I've tried out and completed this year, but it was a lot! 28) I should build some new MtG decks... I know I have enough cards to make at least a couple new passable decks! 29) I still don't get all the hype around Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha, etc... 30) At least I still feel somewhat young, and people think I look young! I got to go to a Christmas lunch at the casino with some people from work last week, and despite there being people younger than and the same age as me in our party, I was the only one who got carded when we got to the place you had to be 21 and older to pass through! I'm totally rocking the baby face! There's your 30 points of randomness, one for each year of me so far. Here's hoping to a happy 31! -- TG |

1) I forget how long it's been since I've posted last, so I'll skip the interim stuff and give today's update because it's interesting. 2) Work stuff: First test was today. I was one of 7 people who passed. The other 15 have to retest tomorrow. Our trainer is not pleased--and it /seems/ the rest of them have figured out that they need to help the trainer help us help us all. ...I think I said that right >_> 3) Fun stuff: Looks like I have a gaming/MtG group now ^_^ Or at least, some of the other guys who managed to pass joined in a 4-way chaos game when I said, "Hey, I'm bored and I brought decks. Anyone want to play?" They were mostly noobs an/dor rusty, but that's cool. They let the Predominantly White deck win ;) Afterwards, we discussed playing D&D... Even invited a couple females, but we just don't have the time to set anything up for tomorrow so I don't know if we can get them to try it later or not. The current tabletop RPG suggestion is me running SR3... but again, most of the potential players are noobs (and I think I'm the only runner) so I may share some PDFs but I'm gonna give a survey or something before nailing anything down. We've got a month or so before starting anything serious, at least. That's lots of time to disseminate info, set up a group, maybe do some practice stuff. Aight, that's the short version for now! More later... |
