I'm just going to let you play it, if you dare, and be the judge for yourself. Don't blame me, though, if I hear you screaming a perfect score of "WTF" all the way here! Enjoy, or don't! | ||||||||

It's a comic book geek's dream come true! (Where's famous Shadean, Mario Muscar when you need him?) One night, on the streets of a sleepy Seattle suburb, a man is walking to his car, when he sees a criminal trying to break into his car. The victim pulls out his phone to dial 911, but suddenly, a superhero emerges from the shadows, wearing a skin-tight black and gold suit, complete with an identity-protecting mask and several gadgets at his disposal. The would-be burglar sees the masked vigilante approaching, and flees the scene, but the hero, determined to let justice reign supreme, pursues the suspect. The car owner stares in amazement, just wondering who that was who thwarted the break-in. The mystery man was later identified as Phoenix Jones, the Guardian of Seattle! At night, his alter ego enters a comic book store, where he accesses a secret door behind a shelf full of comic books. A few minutes later, he will emerge in costume, ready to fight crime alongside his comrades; Thorn, Buster Doe, Green Reaper, Gemini, No Name, Catastrophe, Thunder 88, and Penelope. Together, they form the team, The Rain City Superheroes! Sounds like something straight from the comic books, huh? Maybe a new Marvel or DC comic series, ready to tackle a mostly unexplored city in the realm of super crime fighting? Well, here's the thing... IT'S ALL BLOODY REAL!!! The Rain City Superheroes is actually a very real group of masked crusaders, prowling the streets of Seattle and its suburbs, fighting crime and defending the innocent. There is also an apparent nation-wide movement, called the Real Life Superheroes movement, encouraging people to don the masks to do good deeds. The funny thing about the RLSH movement is that it is run by a guy who calls himself Knight Owl. In one article, members of the RCS name Knight Owl as somebody others should not listen to. I think it may be because the RLSH movement somewhat encourages people to don the superhero outfits. Phoenix Jones has said in one article that all the members of his team do have backgrounds in military combat and/or MMA fighting, so they know what they're doing, as well as the risks associated with playing superhero, and encourage ordinary people not to be crime fighters. So, I ask you, members of the site; what do you all think about this? Are you happy/excited about there being superheroes around? Do you think that we need superheroes? Or do you think that these people are crazy, trying to live out their childhood fantasies, and are way in over their heads? Then there's the whole legality issue... What are your opinions? Here are some links to relevant articles, as well as a video. http://www.bigshinyrobot.com/reviews/archives/20360 http://www.seattlepi.com/local/430430_super19.html http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20027464-504083.html What say ye? Well, it's that time of year again... Time to break down this past year's activity using a bunch of complex numbers! As in years past, I will be giving a brief overview on my thoughts of the past year, as well as making some promises for the upcoming year. One thing I'm going to add, though, is I'm going to review the promises I made at the beginning of this past year, and see how I did in keeping those promises. Overall this past year, we showed signs of improvement in overall usage, capped off by a very strong second half. For a while, we were on a very sluggish pace, but then in August, we started three consecutive months where we beat the records for site visits in those respective months, and although we didn't beat the November and December records, we posted very good numbers, especially December, which was the second-highest month usage total in our history. In the end, we exceeded the site hits from 2009. As for the activity on the site, it's a bit of a mixed bag. On the categories we had checked from the past to determine site activity (Logins, Comments, Forum Posts), each of the numbers had dropped, despite the higher frequency of site hits. There were fewer blogs posted this past year than in 2009, so that's understandable. Plus, I think a lot of the activity that would normally end up in the comments and logins was transferred to the new Opinions feature, which allowed people, whether logged in or not, to approve of or disapprove of, well, pretty much anything on the site! That turned out to be a huge success, as there were almost 200 opinions cast. I looked back on all the promises I made in last year's year in review, and here's where we stand on all of them: 1) I plan on increasing the total number of videos posted to this site. Result: A+; 42 non-WTF Videos posted this year, which is a new record. 2) I am hoping to keep coming with new WTF content every week... Result: D; I was inconsistent in my WTF-ness, and hit only 33 weeks. 3) reestablishing the "Game of the Week" category. Look for that to resume in February. Result: F; Yeah, that just plain didn't happen. 4) I need to get a lot of my old poems archived here, so I will be re-releasing some of my old work for you to enjoy or not. I will probably do one a week... Result: F; Also didn't happen. 5) I have begun work on a webcomic! This will hopefully be a weekly series that will premiere later this year. Result: C; Yes, I have made progress, but it's been a lot more work than I originally anticipated. Plus, with my schedule being all over the place, my time to work on it has been sporadic. But I am still working on it, and making progress! Hoping to have the full script written by mid-spring, and afterwards, will begin paneling the thing out! 6) I am working on the like/dislike function for blog posts. Result: A+++; Not only did we get it on the blog posts, but on just about every other section of the site, too! Overwhelming success so far. Take that, Facebook! 7) You will also see new buttons to automatically share posts on your Facebook, MySpace, and other sites. Result: A; Got it in place in a timely fashion. The only reason I didn't give it an A+ is because I don't know if the function is really being used all that much. 8) Also, I am in the planning stages for a reimagining of TGBob TV. Result: N/A; I just plain decided not to do it... wasn't the right time. 9) There is one other surprise I'm holding back on, because this one new feature may be one of the biggest changes we've had on this site in quite a while, and announcing it here would probably not do the feature justice. Result: WTF?; I don't even remember what that was... 10) One other thing I will be doing this year is giving out awards to members for different categories for the year 2009. Result: F; Yeah, I just plain forgot. For promises this year? I'll do that in a later post. I'm pretty exhausted, so I'm planning on turning in early. So, stay tuned! Below are the yearly stats. And as always, thank you to all the members and lurkers who have made this site a success! -- TG ------------------------------ MEMBER INFO ------------------------------ Number of Members: 33 New Members this year: 3 (RECORD: 7; 2009) SITE STATS (2010/Total) ------------------------------ Site Visits: 3417/11,917 (RECORD: 3557; 2008) Unique Visitors: 842/2038 *** NEW RECORD Most Visits for ---- Single Day: 42; 01/28/10 (RECORD: 48; 12/09/08) ---- Month: 408; December (RECORD: 423; December 2008) MEMBER STATS (2010/Total) ------------------------------ Number of Logins: 298/1121 (RECORD: 431; 2009) Number of Comments: 115/885 (RECORD: 298; 2008) BLOG STATS (2010/Total) ------------------------------ Number of Blogs: 127/588 (RECORD: 184; 2008) By Category ---- Daily Blog: 50/288 (RECORD: 104; 2008) ---- Video Blog: 0/1 (RECORD: 1; 2007) ---- Sports: 0/23 (RECORD: 17; 2007) ---- Projects: 1/4 (RECORD: 2; 2007) ---- WTF: 33/157 (RECORD: 49; 2008) ---- Other Videos: 42/96 *** NEW RECORD ---- Polls: 0/8 (RECORD: 4; 2007) ---- Poetry: 1/2 *** TIED RECORD (2008) ---- Game of the Week: 0/8 (RECORD: 8; 2008) FORUM STATS (2010/Total) ------------------------------ Threads Created: 17/240 (RECORD: 148; 2003) Most Threads Created for ---- Single Day: 2; 02/15/10 & 09/30/10 (RECORD: 28; 06/30/03) ---- Month: 7; July (RECORD: 44; August 2003) Number of Posts: 66/469 (RECORD: 192; 2003) Most Posts for ---- Single Day: 8; 09/29/10 (RECORD: 28; 06/30/03) ---- Month: 23; September (RECORD: 46; August 2003) MEMBER BOARD STATS (2010/Total) ------------------------------ Number of Messages: 24/76 (RECORD: 52; 2009) Most Messages in ---- Single Day: 2; 09/24/10, 09/29/10, 10/05/10, 12/10/10 (RECORD: 19; 05/06/09) ---- Month: 6; April & December (RECORD: 34; May 2009) OPINIONS (NEW TO 2010) ------------------------------ Number of Opinions: 182 Most Opinions Cast for ---- Single Day: 11; 04/07/10 ---- Month: 40; April Number of Approvals: 178 Most Approvals Cast for ---- Single Day: 11; 04/07/10 ---- Month: 40; April Number of Disapprovals: 4 Most Disapprovals Cast for ---- Single Day: 1; 05/17/10, 06/21/10, 07/11/10, 11/07/10 ---- Month: 1; May, June, July, November |
