First of all, why am I still awake? Probably because of playing Valkyria Chronicle a bit too much... but I finally got past Fouzen! Plus, I forgot to set the air conditioner in my bedroom, so it's roasting right now, and I can't sleep when it's too hot. So, I'm in the process of cooling down the room, and figured I'd tell this story about today. It started out as a typical Sunday morning... get up early, get ready and head to church, etc., etc... Well, our church services ended, and a bunch of us were standing around in the auditorium just chatting like we tend to do. As customary, our front door was propped opened, as it was nice and warm outside. So, while we were talking with each other, all of a sudden, a Pug and a Boston Terrier were darting through the door, up the stairs, into the auditorium, and began doing dashes side by side around and between the pews! We just kind of stand there, not really knowing what to think, and then after the brief moment of shock, we start trying to herd the dogs out of the building. We eventually succeed (although they made numerous other attempts to get in), only to find that there is also a Bulldog darting up and down the sidewalk as well! What had happened was the family next door to the church building owned these dogs, and had them in their backyard while they were out and about. Somehow, their backyard fence gate became opened, and the three dogs made a mad dash for it. Luckily, one of our members recognized the dogs and knew where we belong, so some of our members rounded up the dogs and put them back in the yard, closing the gate behind them. It was no easy task, though. Once all three of them were outside, a couple made a run for it down the street. The Pug stayed close to home, and was easily captured. The Bulldog took a nice little run for a short fat dog, but was captured and carried back to the house from about a half a block away. The Boston, though, ended up about two blocks away before being captured by one of our members who went on the hunt. All in all, a rather odd occurrence to add a little seasoning to the day! Well, I think my room is cooled off now, so time to turn in. Catch y'all later! -- TG |

So, although I've been busy as usual, every moment I've been getting the chance, I've been working on some new updates for this site. I wanted to share with you real quick what is in store in the very, very near future. I'm hoping that all of this will be ready by the end of this week. 1) There will be new forum screens for creating new topics and replying to topics. These screens will include additional options, such as adding your signature to the end of your post, disabling the TGBBCode, and subscribing to the post. Also, there will be some automated functions to add TGBBCode tags to the post without having to type them in manually. 2) As hinted above, each user will have the ability to create their own signature files to include at the end of each forum post they make, if they desire to include it. These signatures will be TGBBCode-enabled. 3) You will have the ability to subscribe to both forum topics and blog comments on a per topic basis. If you wish to subscribe to these, you will receive an email notification each time a forum or comment thread you have subscribed to receives a new post. 4) The side menu is going to get a bit of an overhaul, with separate tabbed menu screens, including the main login/stat menu (as you see now for the most part), expanded blog search menu, a site updates screen that lists changes as they take place, and an activity log, where you'll see line by line what all is being posted where on the site. 5) There will be a stripped-down version of the TGBBCode functionality added to the blog comments and member board posts. After I get all these in place, I will be to the point where all the major changes I envisioned for this site will be completed, unless something else pops into my mind. And once these are all up and running, I will unveil the details of the upcoming member drive contest! Keep the comments and suggestions coming! -- TG |

Welcome, nature lovers, to another edition of WTF Video of the Week! This week, we go back to our favourite country on the other side of the Pacific, Japan, for a training drill in a Tokyo zoo. What are they training for? How to stop a charging rhino. Unfortunately for us, it's not the real thing... just a couple guys in a rhino suit, who do a WTF-worthy performance of a real rhino. Fortunately for them, it's not the real thing, because as we all know, charging rhino is unstoppable, and is an automatic win. Well, I guess it doesn't hurt for them to try! Cue the dramatic music, and enjoy! | ||||||||

Time to lay down some late night randomness. 1) Why am I still awake? 2) My brother is coming into town very early in the morning... although it will be just a layover until he goes to eastern PA with the rest of my family later in the day. However, I will get all Wednesday evening to visit with him! 3) I saw a cousin of mine at Huddle House this evening, but kept calling him by a different cousin's name. And every question I asked him about his life were all things I remembered about this other cousin. That tells you how close I am with some of my extended family. Of course, he didn't even recognize me when I went up to him, so that makes us even. 4) Speaking of Huddle House, I have to go back in tomorrow, because I promised the one waitress a bowl of my chili! 5) I went to a church picnic today, and got a good reminder how some kids can be extremely annoying. 6) Adolph's yelling at me. 7) I have a ton of leftover chili. I'm going to be eating well for a while, even if I keep giving some away! 8) At the church picnic, I brought the Sriracha along for the chili, and we would dare each other to "Rooster Up" to make the spicy chili even hotter! 9) I think tomorrow, in any bit of free time I get, I'm going to be sleeping. I've had not nearly enough lately. 10) Out of the games I played at the picnic, the only one I won was the one which I play the least... horseshoes. 11) How can one person look so cute and cuddly? 12) The nickname for my chili is "Afterburner Chili"... this nickname can have two different meanings... think about it... -- TG |

Sometimes, I have a tough time understanding why things happen, and why other actions aren't taken. This one, in particular, I am really struggling with, because everything was in place to prevent something like this from happening, yet nothing was done. If you have been a stranger to the news recently, this past Tuesday evening, an armed man walked into a gym outside of Pittsburgh, entered an aerobics class, and opened fire on the women in the class, killing three, and then taking his own life. What was most disturbing about this act was that the guy had not only planned this for almost a year, but kept a live internet journal documenting his thoughts and planning on his very own site, the domain being registered under his name. This was somebody who was very open about what he was going to do, but yet nobody noticed. I remember watching a news report on this, where a police officer said that in the case of a crazy individual such as this, who is dead set on committing an act such as this, no action could have prevented this. Yes, in most cases, some people are unpredictable. The "quiet person next door" can suddenly lash out on an unsuspecting public who had inadvertently wronged him or her. But this was different. There was warning. The guy made it clear he was going to do it, even to the point where he recorded a blog entry about where he had almost followed through with it a couple months ago, but chickened out! Now, I know his site was probably not all that popular, this guy being an anti-social and all. Plus, the site itself was not attractive to look at, so one glance, and people would probably lose interest before getting too far. But I cannot for the life of me imagine how nobody could have noticed. In a day and age where a nobody teen on an obscure website who makes a bad comment about the President under the guise of an alias has the Secret Service knocking down his door the next day, you cannot tell me that a guy posting on his own registered site about planning to commit mass murder without any thoughts of keeping his identity a secret cannot be noticed! Somebody had to have seen this... why wasn't anything done? The real tragedy in all of this, though, is that three innocent people lost their lives... several families lost loved ones... others lie injured in hospitals. Those are three people whose voices will never be heard again. But, a ton of news websites now have a link to this monster's website. And on the bottom of his website reads the message (paraphrased) "Post a link to this site somewhere else, so my voice can live on forever". In the end, this monster got exactly what he wanted. -- TG *** Keep these families in your prayers *** |
