Well, the Renaissance Festival season is over... before this fall, renaissance fairs didn't really intrigue me in the least. But after some coaxing by my friends to go with them, and actually going, I'm hooked. We went for the second time together last weekend (although my friends had made one other trip out there without me, for a total of three times for them), and still had a blast, even though we hit up some of the same things as we did during my first trip. I was pleased to get some additional filming done, including three full sets of the fire acts... Wilsome, Flourish & Fool, and their combined act, "Not Dead Yet". I'm working on getting the Flourish & Fool videos cleaned and uploaded as we speak, and I also hope to have the Not Dead Yet vids up by the end of the week.
I don't know if you would call it a business connection or not, as I'm not really looking for some business out of this, but I did get to speak with the Flourish & Fool pair a good bit, got Kelsey's business card, and they asked me to send them the videos I was filming of them, as they were thinking of including them in an upcoming promo video if any of my footage makes the cut. So, I've got to send them the youtube links once I get them uploaded, so they can browse the videos, and then if they want them, request the raw clips they need. It will be extremely cool if some of my clips are used, just because they are a nationwide act, and having clips you shot included in the promo video for a nationwide act is just awesome. But for me, it was really cool to see their genuine appreciation that we had come to see their act, and they were really cool to talk to.
Of course, during the second weekend there, I HAD to take in another "Wench Show" (I ended up taking in two.) If you remember the videos, I got pulled out of the audience the first weekend there, to participate in the "Bubba & Veronica" saga, where I proceeded to make a complete fool out of myself, while making the wenches lose their composure after performing my patent-pending hyena laugh! I wasn't sure if I would be remembered or not by the wenches, although my MtG buddy, Brian, had gone the weekend before, and talked with them about my foolery, and they said they had remembered the skit. It wasn't whether or not they would remember it happening, but if they would remember me or not by sight. Of course, with the hundreds of people they have to interact with every week, I would hardly expect them to remember me. But, as we were leaving, we were approaching the younger wench (the same one who had pulled me out of the audience), and after she made a comment about my shirt, her eyes widened, and she screamed out, "I know you!!! Bubba!!!" This, of course, led to a great big hug, and some quick reminiscing of the skit, as we couldn't talk for too long since she was busy taking post-performance donations. We did get to talk a bit longer later on, as Erin and I ran into her before the second of our Wench Show viewing, and we chatted about the videos being online, the show in general, discussing Bubba with her partner wench, etc. She had gotten to see the videos on YouTube, and commented about how the "person who was filming" (Strike) kept giggling.
A few other quick comments about the festival:
1) It's awesome when a group asks for song requests, when you shout out "The one where everybody dies", they do, indeed, sing the song where everybody dies.
2) I was cracking up when Temujin, the storyteller, was accusing me of still living in my parents' basement!
3) I got a new walking stick at the fest, as well as a wooden flute.
All in all, I can't wait until next year. Hope you will enjoy the remaining videos I will be posting over the next couple of days. I have at least seven, possibly eight, to post.
