It's official, my gremlins suck. The 5,000th pair of headphones died at work today after coming home from a weekend of camping where my phone magically stops working (entirely). After looking at phones I have tentatively narrowed it down to a couple of choices.

1.) The Palm Centro Smartphone
2.) The Verizon Wireless VX6900

So I'm requesting help to choose. I will get (should be getting) it on the 5th after returning from Philly Area. Please help as right now it's a toss up for me.

I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face.

I was at first leaning toward the Centro as I had experiance with Palm, but then I started to lean toward the VX because I despised trying to program for the Palm OS.

then there is the fact the Centro has a keyboard while the VX's is only a virtual keyboard.

The VX's Camera is better too.

I hate when they are so even (but different) that it makes decisions difficult. *Shrug*

Ok, I did a side by side comparison, (using a Microsoft Excel sheet... since it's a Microsoft product, the analysis is flawed) and a lot of the stuff is preferential... do you want a Palm OS or Microsoft OS? Do you care about your phone being used by the hearing impared? When it comes down to straight specs, though, it appears that the XV has a major edge.

  • Standard battery life is the about the same, but XV burns the Palm on extended battery life.
  • XV can hold an 8GB memory card, while the Palm can handle only up to a 4GB
  • XV camera is better
  • XV uses v2.0 Bluetooth, while Palm is still at v1.2
  • XV seems to have a lot more software included. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you.

There are some things that the Palm lists that the XV doesn't have, like the whole organizer and calendar apps... although I'm wondering if the XV also includes these, and just didn't bother listing them... I'd be hard-pressed to find a phone nowadays that doesn't include any organizer functions at all.

Also considering that the XV is generally lower-priced, plus with all the comparisons I listed above, it seems as if choosing XV is a no-brainer. Although I am unfamiliar with the Palm OS as compared to Windows Mobile, so I'm not sure if the Palm OS is just way far superior to WMOS... then again, it is Microsoft, so it can't be too hard to be superior! ;)

Well, that's my opinion after some brief research. Hope that helps.
