Ok, so now that I've got the BBCode stuff out of the way, I thought I'd lay out the plans for the new Create/Reply Forum functions. Here's the general gist of things.... 1) Thread title and Post text will remain intact as is, 2) Additional post options will include:
3) An iFrame containing previous entries from that thread. 4) A BBCode Panel on the side, which will give you the ability to highlight text within your post text entry area, and click the BBCode button to apply the proper formatting. Additional options will be made available upon click, if necessary. 5) Instead of just a Submit button, there will be a Preview button and a Post button. The Post button will submit it without any questions, while the Preview button will take you to a preview screen to show you how your post would look within the thread, with the option of making changes before submitting. Let me know what you think, and if you have any other suggestions. -- TG Silly Emo... |

I'll have to come up with a signature, then! ...Um, an 'edit' thing would be nice at some point, too. Since I can't read your post while I'm trying to reply to it, apparently. (Though the quote thing will fix that, whenever it happens.) Rule #1: There are always exceptions to the rules. |

The previous post iFrame will take care of that! And yes, that is my biggest complaint about the reply function right now. Silly Emo... |

Hey, I'm not sure how into bullet proofing you functions you are, but when replying to a post today I got to the reply screen and typed in my message and when I went to click post I noticed I there was an error being reported instead of the post buttons. It turns out that I had forgot to log in. I expect that not allowing anonymous posting was intentional, but I also expect that getting to the reply screen and having an error message replace the buttons was not. Just thought I'd let you know. |

::sigh:: now I'm longing for an edit button too. |

While we're begging for features, what about thumbs-up/down buttons for posts? That's one of the few nice things about facebook: I can 'like' things without having to leave an explicit "me too!" message. >_> Rule #1: There are always exceptions to the rules. |

I noticed that the other day, too... Thanks for reminding me... I was supposed to make it not appear unless you were logged in... I'll get it fixed soon! Silly Emo... |

@muskie62250 -- I've always been very leery about edit buttons... In past versions of the forum, I did have an edit button, and I had one member who was on for a short time, and although she didn't write anything vulgar, she decided one day to completely erase her existence on the site. This led to her deleting the content out of every single forum post she made, so it ended up looking like a bunch of other people replying to a series of blank posts. Now, I may throw in some edit functions in the future, but if I do, I may have them extremely limited. I was thinking maybe applying a time limit on forum post edits, to give people enough time to correct any changes they may see after posting. I was also thinking about the possibility of maybe doing an archival edit function, which would work the same way as a standard edit, except that the database would also store the copy of the post prior to editing, and keep it for records, in case somebody used the edit function to cover up tracks of something they said that may violate site policy. A straight edit, though? Definitely a no on that one. But let me know your opinions on the above two options, or suggest one or more of your own! I'm always up for listening to ideas! @Strike & Co. -- You just had to say the "F" word, huh? ;p I do like the idea of expanding the Approve/Disapprove function to forum posts, and maybe even comments, user profiles, etc.! I'll keep that in mind for future updates once I get a "round tuit"! One other note... On the "F" word site, you can only "Like" things, just like the good citizen they expect you to be! Just take the medication and be happy, darn it! Here, I'm giving you Blue clearance right up front, and also allowing you to voice your disapproval! Be joyous for your freedom, citizen! Oh, I am totally happy that Friend Computer gives us the ability to voice contrasting opinions! -laughs- I just wanted to "like" that forum post instead of writing a completely new post, that's really all it was :) ( "f-word site"... That's great ^_^ ) Rule #1: There are always exceptions to the rules. |

Hey no sweat. Either sound fine. I'm just talking about being able to fix my minor mistakes that I see 30s too late, not preforming revisionist history. I've also seen on some boards a tag added to the post like "this post edited on XX/XXX/XXXX" or something similar.
Hummm I thought that was Green Clearance, and at Blue you could start telling other people what they like and don't like. Though, I guess it doesn't matter either way since I sure we'll find some way to get demoted before the next week-cycle passes -- or at least that's what my secret society is telling me. |
